I chose to attend Platteville because it has an excellent manufacturing program. The metals and composites lab has some of the most high tech equipment in the country. Platteville's class sizes are optimal for learning. My class sizes have ranged from 25 to 40 students. The smaller class size has allowed me to know my teachers on a more personal level which has made it easier to get one-on-one help from my professors. UWP is very affordable allowing me to get an excellent education without the worry of debt after graduation. The reputation here at Platteville is well renowned and finding a job after college is easier with the demand from many different corporations from all over the Midwest.
Classes at Platteville take a hands-on approach which has given me experience before I graduate and pursue a career. The university is remarkable at finding co-ops or internships for students by providing the Career Center and the Career Fair. After posting my resume through the Career Center and attending the Career Fair, I was able to land my co-op at General Motors in Janesville. I started my co-op during the summer of 2006 and continued through the fall semester. This experience helped me land an internship through the career fair this past summer with the Plexus Company as a Manufacturing Engineering Intern. I am graduating in May 2008 and have already used the career fair again to find a full time position with Oshkosh Truck working for their military division. The university has made it easy for students to find experience and excellent paying jobs. The career fair and career link at Platteville advanced so many students here and is one of the best resources here on campus.
On almost every night of the week, Platteville provides an activity or speaker. The activities match the diverse interests of the students. I am interested in soccer, and have played on the soccer team; if you are interested in music there is a concert almost every week in the CFA. Our CPR event staff brings in comedians, bands, hypnotists and even has open mic nights for entertainment, making the campus a fun place to be on any night. I have enjoyed picking the events I enjoy seeing and attend them with friends and classmates.
It is easy to meet people at Platteville with the small class sizes. I met my friends by playing soccer here at Platteville. Practices and games was a great opportunity to meet people with similar interests. Besides soccer there are many other organizations and groups to join allowing students to become active in the activities they enjoy. I became a Student Ambassador for Platteville, helping bring in prospective students to the university and raising money for scholarships. There are groups and committees that meet every person’s interests making it easy to become involved on campus and to gain experience for a future career.
