I attended the Wuhan, China-US program two years ago. I was attracted by the curriculum. Even though our courses were taught in China, all the professors were from UWP. Soon after I attended the class, I knew that my choice was right. Platteville is known for the high quality education where we can get more chances to talk with the professors and other faculty members. There are a lot of excellent professors, such as Professor Iselin, Professor Kinder, Professor Chellevold, Professor Faymonville, Dr. Son, to name just a few. There are also a lot of student service organizations on the campus. It is really a great privilege to live in such a student-oriented environment.
While I was attending this program in China, I taught the college students English. At the same time, I could use the methods I studied to apply to my teaching. Through learning by doing and doing by learning, I have gained a lot. I appreciate this kind of learning method. Too much theory will make me tired, while too much practice will make me empty.
Through the campus and community activities, the creativity and the passion for nature aroused my interest to get involved with art again. I have enjoyed viewing the art in the residence halls, the Nohr Gallery and at the Arts Build events. I have also enjoyed attending events at the Toastermasters Club at Lands' End. It helps me to be more confident and professional in speaking publicly. I am doing a lot of presentations about China around campus and trying to represent my country well.
Even though I can only stay here for a semester, I have a lot of moments to remember. I was amazed by all of the drinking fountains when I arrived. In China, we boil the water and pour it into a container, then we can either drink the hot water or let it get cold.
Experiencing the rope course is another memorable moment. It looks easy to climb up and then balance in the air, but when I really climbed up, I realized how hard it was. The whole process is a tough task and being well-prepared is the first step. When we set up to do something, we should know ourselves well and anticipate the difficulties we may meet. Attitude is an important contribution to success.
