Faculty Provide Formula for Success

The strengths of studying my major here are the professors and their classes. Dr. Wayne Weber, Dr. Jeff Huebschman, Dr. Elizabeth Duewer, and my advisor Dr. Marilyn Tufte make studying biology great because they care about my education and have the same passion for biology as I do! They make studying biology fun and they are more than willing to put in time to see me. Dr. Chanaka Mendis of the chemistry department is also a wonderful professor who has helped me understand the material and makes class fun. These professors are extraordinary people and I admire them greatly.

Rangerette Overcomes "New Student Shyness"

Becoming a college student comes with a great amount of responsibility. Learning how to manage my time with studies, extracurricular activities, and work was a challenge. Getting involved is very important in college, and through Rangerettes I have made great friends. I enjoy dancing and working out, so Rangerettes gives me an opportunity to put both of these hobbies together in one activity. Plus, it is a nice break from studying and the girls make it so enjoyable! Not only does getting involved help you meet great people, but also helps you manage your time more wisely and get over the "new student shyness."

Peer Advisors Will Help You, Too

Being a peer advisor became a very notable job for me because it was fun, I got to meet a lot of great people, and helped new students prepare for college. Through peer advising, I was able to help new students become more familiar and less intimidated by college. When I was a new student to Platteville, it was really nice to have a peer advisor that I could talk to and give me advice from a student's point of view. When I became a peer advisor, I was excited that I would be able to help students that were in the position that I was in not too long ago.

The Payoff

A couple of memorable moments for me have been making the Dean's List and joining Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma in my first semester of college.
