Resident Halls Offer Great Social Experience

Living in the residence halls is a vital part of college life. It is a great environment to meet new people and to get involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities. It is important to talk to other students on the floor and to participate in the programs that are offered. I have met some of my best friends in this environment. My first semester at UWP, I served as a wing representative on Hall Council. From there, more opportunities have become available to me. Later, I served as secretary and during my sophomore year I served as the president. Living in the resident halls is an exciting experience that is as fruitful as you make it.

Creating a Voice for the Students

Recently elected as student senate president, I have found my opportunity to lead the student body. I am open to listening to students and the concerns that they may have. Students have rights and it is my goal to help their voices be heard. I wish to give every student the following advice, “Don’t let college get in the way of college.” It means something different to everyone but to me it means broadening my horizons and meeting each new challenge. I am up to the challenge that this year holds and I look forward to working with the students at UWP.

Coming Together

Last year I helped start Glowing Ministry, an organization to reach out to students who want to come together to share their beliefs. My hope is to share my passion for service and help promote spiritual growth. This organization provides a great way to get more involved on campus.

Hard Work Really Pays Off

Several years ago, I took the opportunity to start my own business, Janes Bros. Independent Contracting, with my twin brother. We upgrade and install water meters and water metering devices. I always felt that it was important to take classroom lectures and apply them to the real world and this was the perfect opportunity. This has definitely been a learning experience. I have developed self-confidence and the ability to multi-task while delegating responsibility and leading a business. The benefits of my business have only encouraged my academic success. I like to think that a business is like a car, you may have to put in time, money, sweat and tears to make it work but there is nothing sweeter than watching it get rolling.
