Raising Awareness

The Alliance was the very first organization I joined at UWP. I was attracted to the organization because of what it stands for— its goal is to create a more amiable and accepting environment in the community and throughout UWP for those individuals who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning. Last year, I was able to use my skills in graphic design to redesign the Alliance website that hadn’t been updated since 2001. I have always been interested in gay and lesbian rights and the wonderful, caring group of people who greeted me when I joined the Alliance made me instantly feel welcome at UWP.

Grammar Girl

As an English major and the daughter of a UWP English professor, I have grown up with a constant curiosity for grammar. I have spent a great deal of time in the Karrmann library and think it is a great resource for students. I feel as though the English professors here completely relate to the students and appreciate their enthusiasm to learn. I have had professors go out of their way to provide me with extra information, recommend authors and lend me books they think I would enjoy. It’s this attention to detail and passion for the subject that makes the UWP English program a truly exceptional one.

Extra, extra, read all about it

I have been the copy editor for the Exponent for about one year. The Exponent is UWP’s award-winning student newspaper. The job of the copy editor is to look over the Exponent one final time before it is sent to be printed. What I enjoy most about copy editing is the group of supportive and interesting people I get to work with. It is hard work and stressful at times but the people on the staff make it all worthwhile. I have always been interested in the technical aspect of grammar and syntax and being a copy editor allows me to apply my interests in a fun and friendly environment.
