UW-Platteville was very attractive to me for the value it provides. As a student financing my own education, cost was a very real consideration for my college selection. UWP offers excellent programs at an affordable price. I had the opportunity to attend other universities, but their cost was prohibitive. Now that I am a student here, I look back and find that UWP’s student life and academic programs are either on par or superior to many other schools.
Platteville is a great place to study technology education. With roots in technical as well as education fields, it is a natural blend that allows me to take advantage of both strengths of the university. The equipment available here provides an opportunity to work with many of the machines I will find in the real world. Being able to have a very hands-on education, in the industrial studies department, has given me the knowledge I will need to succeed as a teacher.
Perhaps one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had at UWP is my involvement with student housing. This is my fourth year as a resident assistant (RA). The job has been very rewarding and I continue to grow and learn from the experiences I have each day. Meeting new people, both staff and residents, has been an awesome adventure. Being an RA has given me so many skills that will be directly applicable to life and work after college. Through this opportunity, I was also able to serve on the National Residence Hall Honorary as an executive board member. This experience provided me with the opportunity to be a group leader and to learn how to direct an organization to accomplish their goals.
I have found that life as a college student is a wonderful time to explore your boundaries and limits as well as a prime opportunity to expand your horizons. There is so much to be learned outside the classroom. While I have been at UW-Platteville, I have had the opportunity to learn how to SCUBA dive, play guitar, ride a motorcycle, be involved in student government and a whole slew of other activities outside of the classroom. These experiences have helped me shape my identity into something I am proud of. UW-Platteville offers so many activities that finding one to like or to get involved in is not a challenge.
