Private School Feel at Affordable Prices

I chose to attend UWP due to its small class sizes and small campus size. It seemed like a very good school to pursue an engineering major, and had nice facilities and an experienced staff. After comparing it with the larger schools and other private engineering schools, it seemed like a very good value and it looked as though I might even get a better education than those higher priced, private schools.

UWP is Heavily Recruited

Currently, I am a Student Manager at Technical and Event Services at UWP. The job is a lot of fun, but comes with a good deal of responsibility as well. It has taught me many skills, both technical and administrative. I also have held an internship at John Deere - Dubuque Works during summer '04. A large number of companies rely on UWP for top quality engineers, and even though UWP is small, it is a heavily recruited school.

mtvU's Best Music on Campus

One of my most successful and fulfilling achievements that I have accomplished here at UWP is the success of my rock band, Envy. Envy was recently named mtvU's "Best Music on Campus 2005." The band won a recording deal with Universal Records and will be shooting a music video in LA in the next couple of months. Being in this band has taught me that hard work and dedication will pay off, even though it might take a while. I have made some great friends and have had a lot of fun playing shows around town, both on and off campus. Some of the events on campus that Envy has performed at include Circle Fest, Rock the Vote, Battle of the Bands and the Freshman Welcome Party '05. This band is a great example of how if students have an interest in something, such as a rock band, even if there isn't a campus group for it, there will be plenty of people on campus with the same interests and it is easy to start your own group.

Won't Get Lost in the Crowd

Attending a smaller school really allowed me to meet and make friends with a large number of people, because you don't get lost in the crowd. At a large school, it is typical that you make some friends in classes for a semester, but then you lose touch when you get new classes. UWP is different in the fact that people you meet, you will continue to see around campus and find out that you have mutual friends with that person, so your network of friends will continue to grow through you college career.
