Short Stories, Contemporary Literature and Poetry

I am very passionate about studying English at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The class sizes are very small and allow for an intimate discussion of the literature. The English and literature courses are very unique as they allow students to survey a broad time period of literature in one class and then provide the opportunity to take a specialized course within that time period. I recently took a course, American Literature Since the Civil War, and then took, Mark Twain and American Humor, to gain further insight into Twain's writings. UWP allows students to specialize their education in areas they are specifically interested in.

Involvement Teaches Life Skills

Throughout my college career, I have been actively involved both on and off campus. By serving as the public relations executive board member for the Catholic Newman Community, I have learned the importance of publicity and have gained a better understanding on how to create, organize and implement activities. I have also had the opportunity to work as a tutor with University Tutoring Services. My involvement has helped me to develop my organizational and time management skills. Following graduation, I know that these experiences will benefit my continued education in religious studies.

Classes Impact Life Course

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville provides so much more then just an education; it challenges students to gain insight and wisdom on controversial issues. Students are expected to understand the various sides of an argument, while examining their own personal views on the issue. My Women and Mythology: Goddess, Witch, Sibyl class, a course designed to take a comparative and interdisciplinary approach to the feminine as they appear internationally, has forced me to look at the cultural context of the literature. Courses such as this one hlep me to see the world from many different viewpoints and to gain more thorough understanding of myself.
