The main reason I decided to attend UWP was the strength of the engineering programs that UWP offered. In addition to the quality of engineering, I also really liked the campus atmosphere. I knew coming here that I would not be treated as a number; instead, I would get to know and interact with my professors as well as many of my classmates.
College has fulfilled every expectation I had coming into it, and more. It has taught me how to go about daily life and the organizational skills that are needed to succeed. Coming to college forced me to learn day-to-day skills like doing the laundry, paying bills, and cooking (although I haven’t really mastered that one too well yet). However, not everything about college is serious, obviously. I have made some of the best friends that a person could ask for. With my friends bringing all sorts of different backgrounds to the table, it has allowed me to experience things that I have never experienced before.
The biggest asset to my real-world training has been my co-op with Marcin Engineering. Through this co-op, I was able to experience what life would be like after school for an extended period of time. It increased my time management skills, as I was sometimes handed multiple projects at once to work on. This led to some long days, but it was all a part of the learning process. The best part about this co-op, besides the knowledge I gained and money I made, was that I was able to live in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I was able to experience things such as high-altitude camping, whitewater rafting, and hiking. I have always felt the need to be adventuresome, and this partially quenched that desire.
There is always something going on around the campus. There are many organizations and activities to join. I’m working with Habitat for Humanity right now and it feels good to be helping others and having fun at the same time. I’ve had many memorable moments – participating in intramurals, having get-togethers at everybody’s houses, grilling out during the warm nights, and going to catch a movie and a game of bowling. I would not trade my college experience for anything; I know that I made the right choice in coming to Platteville.
