Atmosphere

I chose to attend UWP because of its size. I come from a small community and school so it was easy for me to make the adjustment. UWP is not too big but not too small. Everyone is very friendly here too. People say "hi" when they don't even know you and that is what makes me feel welcome. The distance played a factor too. It was far enough from home, but close enough if I wanted to go home on a weekend. I love the campus itself. I was raised on a farm, so it was nice to still have that with me when I went to college. I am involved in Dairy Club because it helps me to still be involved in a background that I have always had. It helps to share similar interests with others too.

That's what pointed me towards Platteville: its atmosphere.

Getting Lots of Hands-On Experience

While in college, I work at the UWP Publications Office where I am a student designer. I enjoy it, plus it really helps me to extend my knowledge and gives me hands on experience. I learn about the career itself and skills that I couldn't learn in the classroom. I am involved in Imaging Media Group because it helps me to know more people with similar interests. We can do things that are of interest to us. I get to display my knowledge of a subject and work as a team. I am also taking pictures for the Exponent, the school newspaper, because I enjoy doing it and it's another way to further my knowledge and to keep practicing what I have learned. It also gives me hands on experience of how an actual newspaper works.

Shutterbug Gets Around

Campus and community activities help me to engage my interests and hobbies because I take photographs of what is happening on campus or in the community. The different events that go on reach a wide variety of people's interests. With all the different performances, singers, bands and other cultural activities, how could you not find an interest in at least one of them? They also provide leadership opportunities for us to grow to be leaders.

Numb with Delight

My most memorable moment would have to be going out late at night and sledding down the big hill under the lights. It's freezing cold out and after awhile of walking up and down the hill you can't feel anything anyways. It's the best time to go because its dark and its so fast you don't know where you are going. I felt like a little kid again.
