A Positive Attitude Goes a Long Way

I have learned to keep a good attitude about things even when they are not going the way I want them to. Working through the bumps on the path to success only makes your achievements that much more important. College has taught me how to manage my time and how to effectively deal with stress. I find that staying active, exercising and talking with my friend are the best ways to battle stress.

Resident Halls Offer Great Social Experiences

Living in the resident halls is a vital part of college life. It is a great environment to meet new people and to get involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities. I have met some of my best friends in this environment. It is important to talk to the other students on the floor, get to know each other and participate in the programs that are offered. My first semester at UWP, I served as a wing representative on my hall’s Hall Council. From there, more opportunities have become available to me. Later, I served as secretary and during my sophomore year I served as the president. Living in the resident halls is an exciting experience that can be enlarged by being involved.

Community Involvement brightens the seasons

As a member of Hall Council, I have been actively involved in the organization and planning of both the 2004 and 2005 Wilgus Hall Christmas parties. Each year, Wilgus Hall hosts a Christmas party for under privileged children. This event allows the magic of the holiday to be present for children who may not otherwise be able to celebrate the season. The event takes months of planning, but is definitely worth it. I love seeing the smiles on children’s faces as they see Santa. My involvement has not only helped me to become more involved in the community but it has helped me to develop excellent leadership and time management skills that are further reflected in my academic and social activities.
