I chose to attend UWP because there was a good education program here and I was planning on majoring in elementary education. Also, it was nice to stay in my hometown because I could continue to work at my jobs and get an education at a very reasonable cost. I really like the small campus setting and the idea of smaller class sizes because you get to personally know your professors. Platteville has an excellent education program, which really made me decide to go here. Some professors that really have helped me out so far include Dale Henze, Rea Kirk, and Vicky Suhr. The School of Education is very helpful and informative in assisting to make sure you take the right courses.
You have to take the initiative to be organized and responsible in planning your class schedule, extra curricular activities and fun time. Don't be shy when you get to college. Introduce yourself to other students and professors. Attend events. I played soccer my first two years of college and I have met many great people and have developed strong friendships.
The opportunity to observe in local schools has solidified the fact that I am on the right path to a career I will totally enjoy. I also want to get into coaching soccer and basketball and have had the opportunity to do that at Platteville High School and with club sports. Attending sporting events on campus is something I really enjoy doing with my friends in my free time. In the community, I have been involved with rec and club sports and coaching children involved in soccer and basketball. I've also worked with children at the local teen center and in a summer day care program. That is a very fulfilling activity I enjoy off campus.
I can't really pick out just one most memorable moment because I have had many. But it was exciting when I was a member of the soccer team that tied the school record for the most wins my sophomore year. Also, the trip to Dallas, Texas, my freshman year with the soccer team was exciting. It was my first time on a plane and we had a wonderful experience.
