For me, UW-Platteville has been a perfect fit. It is a small campus with a one-on-one learning system that is close to my hometown. Every time I walk to class, I run into people that I have previously taken classes with, performed with or participated in the same organization with. The professors at UWP make this campus special. Not all college students can say they have weekly conversations with their professors. That in itself makes UWP a warm and friendly place to continue my education.
During the past two years, I have been actively involved with TV-5 News. Thanks in part to the guidance of Dr. Robert Snyder, I have covered a wide range of campus and city events including concerts, store openings, politics and sports. My education has allowed me to build additional contacts with professionals across the country. Occasionally, I have freelanced for ESPN at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badger Games. I recently completed an internship with NBC-15, a local news station, in Madison. Due to the programs offered at UWP, I have been able to have many significant hands-on experiences. I found that employers are always interested in those individuals who have had prior experience. Reporting from Camp Randall and Lambeau Field to the Williams Fieldhouse and the Pioneer Stadium, it is all thanks to my education at UWP.
I have found that UWP has one of the best music departments in the state. For the past four years, I have been extremely involved in many music and performing ensembles on campus. Last winter, I was one of eight student representatives who attended the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association Conference. Another memorable experience was when I was featured as a soloist in the performance of Mozart’s Requiem. Whether it was playing a pirate in a musical theater production, performing at Miller Park before a Brewer Game or being involved with the brothers of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, it has been an honor and a privilege to be a member of the UWP Music Department.
