I am a full-time academic staff employee on campus and work for the Office of Student Housing as the Hugunin Hall resident director. After working at UWP for several years, I decided to check out the graduate program in counselor education. In 2005, I made the decision to obtain a degree in counseling education and during the summer of 2006 I officially began working on my degree. I knew that in order to be more marketable in the field of student affairs that I would need a master’s degree. The programs offered at UWP met all my needs and enabled me to maintain my employment. I really enjoy my course work at UWP.
I enjoy the real world experience that my professors bring into the classroom environment. In addition, I have found those students enrolled in the counseling education program are very encouraging and supportive of each other. I have taken a majority of my coursework with Dr. Kim Tuescher. Her teaching style is very personable and I feel that I am able to learn a lot in a fun and informal atmosphere. I have also enjoyed my classes with Craig Wheeler. He genuinely cares about the students around him and challenges them to hone their skills in order to be the most effective students and professionals.
Working with the resident assistants is one of the best aspects of my job. I love being able to coach staff through the good, the bad and the ugly. The creativity, integrity, hard work and heart that my staff has shown through the years continues to inspire me. I also have the pleasure of seeing several former residents become involved on campus in a variety of different leadership positions. Several specific events stand out as memorable including the Wilgus Hall Christmas Party, Circlefest and trips with coworkers to New York and Mexico. As I look back at those big events, I also think of the things that I treasure most: daily resident director lunches at the Pioneer Student Center, time socializing at the residence hall front desk, working with students, hall council and simply sharing life with the people around me.
Aside from academic obligations, I like spending time outside taking photographs. The UWP campus is very beautiful and I enjoy its close proximity to many state parks. I have found a church family in Platteville and am proud to be a member of the Community Evangelical Free Church. I really enjoy advising student groups, including Glowing Ministries, Donut Run Club, UWP Bowling Team and Hugunin Hall Council. I consider myself blessed to work with such great individuals in a beautiful community.
