Classes Are Done! 10/29/09

On Wednesday I finished up my last official class of the semester, which was international marketing. I will miss going to the classes and the experience of it all, but the homework not as much. However, I still have to get a couple papers and one exam out of the way still. I still have my coordinators class, but the last day of that is Thursday November 5th.
On Thursday, a didgeridoo player came to play and talk to our group during class, so we had class outside in the tropical jungle of uni! A didgeridoo is an Aboriginal music instrument that is a hollow wooden tube of various lengths and has a deep low droning sound. It was really interesting and he told lots of stories that he was told as a child or from things he personally experienced. One thing he mentioned a lot was to never wish anything away in one’s life because every second is so precious. He played the didgeridoo instrument and the different sounds he could make with it were incredible! I thought it was really cool! The few times I have been in Sydney, down near the Harbour they are a couple of men who are there regularly playing the didgeridoo and other instruments. They are all really talented musicians.
Jeanie and I went on a mission Friday to the uni to get pictures of the “jungle” campus! We wandered all over the campus taking pictures of it and of us just being silly at times. It is neat going to a school where there are lots of interesting tropical plants and palm trees! I really like palm trees and think they are the coolest things ever, so it’s perfect for me!
Since Halloween is coming up, we Americans are going to dress up for it. Halloween isn’t celebrated here in Australia, although I think it’s slowly being picked up by some of the Aussies. Maybe our American group can help spread the Halloween trend even more! A few of us would like to go trick-or-treating, but Aussies aren’t accustomed to that tradition and their reactions would be hilarious. We’ll celebrate Halloween with our group and that will be super fun!
