The Office of Admission and Enrollment
Management combines the efforts of a number of professionals
in marketing, recruiting, admitting, advising,
funding (financial aid packaging), career planning, and
directed experiences in placing students in jobs upon
graduation and thereafter. The dean of admission and
enrollment management has the overall responsibility of ensuring
that UW-Platteville has: 1) enrolled the number of
students necessary to meet the target set by the UW-System,
2) funded (financial aid) students according to federal
and state formulae, 3) admitted all students meeting
the admission requirements, 4) advised students helping
them make informed decisions, 5) assisted students in
planning for a career, and 6) assisted students in securing
employment that is directly or indirectly related to their major.
The director of enrollment services and the
admission advisers have a multitude of responsibilities including
the development and implementation of a university
marketing plan, the development and implementation of
a university recruitment plan, hosting on and off
campus events linked to the recruitment of students of all
ages, and the coordination of registration and orientation of
all new students. These tasks include the expertise of
the immediate staff as well as faculty, staff, and
students throughout the entire university community and
are conducted throughout the calendar year.
The personnel in the Office of Graduate and
Undergraduate Admission have the responsibility of admitting all
new students including new freshmen, transfer
students, reentrant students, specials, high school specials,
and graduate students. The process includes review of
all applications, transcripts, notification of admission
decisions to applicants, the development of
articulation agreements; the issuance of I-20's for international
students, presentation of statistical data, and the
administration of all admission related policies.
Providing funding for students at UW-Platteville is
the direct responsibility of the personnel in the Office of
Financial Aid. The personnel in this office provide the
expertise for the development of a variety of financial aid
packages meeting the needs of each student applying for aid.
Funding formulae are used representing federal, state and
local guidelines. Work-study opportunities linked to financial
aid assist students in keeping the cost of their education as
low as possible. Additionally, scholarships are awarded to
the students who have a demonstrated need or have met
other stipulations required by the scholarship donors.
The Academic Advising Office for Deciding
Students provides assistance, support, and resources to
those students who are exploring their academic major
and career possibilities or are considering changing
their current major. The University Academic Advisor
works closely with the Office of Career Planning and
Placement to provide major and career information located in
the Career Resource Center. The Advising Office helps
students plan and select future courses that fulfill
requirements for graduation and allow exposure to areas
of possible career interest. The Academic Advising Office
for Deciding Students is located in 216 Pioneer Tower.

Career planning is critical for each student, including
those who have already defined their future and have a
directed focus. The professionals in the area of Career
Planning have a distinct mission related to the provision of
services to each student exploring present and future potential.
These services may be provided on an individual basis
or in a group setting. In either manner, relevant materials
are presented providing students with a bank of
knowledge necessary to make continued lifetime decisions.
Once students have chosen a major(s) and are
nearing completion of a degree, it is imperative that they begin
the process of securing employment or continue their
education in graduate school. The Office of Career Planning
and Placement has, as its mission, the mandate to provide
UW-Platteville students with the tools necessary to
secure employment related directly or indirectly to their major
area of study. The tools include the comprehensive
development of a resume, the invitation of employers to campus
for interviews, the development of a campus recruiting
information sheet, and the development of interviewing skills. All
of these tools represent processes whereby the employer,
the student, and the placement professional use a team effort
in the enhancement of the final chapter of each
UW-Platteville student linking their education to the world of work.
