Academic Intervention

What is a beacon alert?

Beacon is a campus-wide early alert system that allows a faculty or staff member to seek help for a student who is struggling academically in their courses. Research shows that students identified as "at risk" within the first 2 - 3 weeks of the semester who are then offered help and accept the help are more likely to succeed.

How to use Beacon: Using D2L or this website, locate the Beacon Widget to create an “alert” or an “encouragement”. This alert or encouragement triggers the Academic Intervention team to connect with the student and will also provide additional referrals as appropriate.

This quickguide explains how to use the Beacon Widget.

Note: If the student you are reporting on is not found in Beacon, you will need to contact Academic Support Programs directly.  If you do not use Desire2Learn, it is still important to contact Academic Support Programs about at risk students.  Call 608.342.1081 or email academicsupport@uwplatt.edu
