UW-Platteville's Jessica Scott earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference runner of the week award for her performance at Iowa State.
Scott, a freshman from Kiel, set a UW-Platteville school record and automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.64 at the Iowa State Classic. Her time is the third fastest in the country among NCAA Division III runners this season.
The Pioneer track and field teams are in action this weekend in two different meets. Some of the Pioneers will compete at the University of Northern Iowa Invitational Friday, while the rest will be at the UWP Open in Williams Fieldhouse, Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The final home meet of the year also is set aside for Parents' Day.
Competing in the UWP Open are men's and women's teams from Ashford, Clarke, Concordia, Wis., Cornell, Mount Mercy, and the UW-Whitewater women's team.
