EQUIPMENT You Need to Have: A scale of some sort divided in inches with subdivisions in tenths. Metric is also OK. A calculator .
A calculator. Any inexpensive one will do what is required but one with trig functions is best. The Windows XP calculator also works.
Final Exam: Thursday, December 18, 1:00 PM - 2:52 PM - Final Exam Schedule
COURSE DESCRIPTION: To develop an understanding of the use and methods for air photo interpretation for landuse identification and measurement of photographs to calculate length, height, areas, and volume. In gaining these goals, an understanding of the properties of insolation, the electromagnetic spectrum, films, cameras, and mapping scales will be acquired.
GRADING: Your grade in this course will be based on 2 exams and 14 lab grades. Each examination will be 100 points and each lab exercise will be scaled to 20 points for a total of 480 points.

Examinations:
The examinations will cover material from class, reading assignments, and labs. The Final Examination will have 100 points on the material since the first examination. Format will be identification, short answer, and problems.
Makeup Examinations:
There will be NO makeup examinations unless I am notified BEFORE the exam is given AND you have a doctor's notice or other proof; a makeup may be taken no later than 1 WEEK after the normal date of the given exam. Generally, makeups are more difficult than the regular exam.
Absenteeism:
You are expected to attend class and are responsible for material that is presented in class. Examinations will emphasize what is covered in class.
LABS: The labs in the text will need to be copied somewhere BEFORE the lab. The photos in the text will be better to look at but put all your marks and answers on the COPIES. Labs that are handouts will not need the copies. Labs are due upon leaving the lab or at the beginning of next week's lab.
Paper: You will complete a report on the uses of Aerial Photography for one application.
TERM PAPER - The report is due Tuesday, 25 November.
It should be typed and double-spaced.
The font
used should be no more than 12 points and no less than 10 points.
Half
your sources should be journals and books, NOT web sites. (At least 10
sources).
Your project is to examine the uses of Air Photo data in one area
of application. It should examine specific spectral signatures and keys used to
read the objects on the photographs (For example, cities paint big arrows on the
roads to find fire hydrants). It should also include basic calculations needed
to interpret imagery in your selected area.
TITLE: The title will be The Applications of Aerial Photography to ________________, where the blank is your choice. Examples are "Forestry; Wetland Management; Wildlife Management; City Planning; Environmental Management; Geology; Anthropology; and Biology" or any other application that you find of interest..

Cell Phones: Cell phones should be silent in class. If your "vibration mode" is louder than your ringer, just turn the phone off. Any phone that rings in class will require the owner to bring treats for the entire class.
Disabilities: Any student who may need an accommodation due to a disability, please make an appointment to see me during my office hours. A VISA from Services for Students with Disabilities authorizing your accommodations will be needed. If you need special accommodations, you must arrange those before any exams. For religious concerns contact Student Affairs (342-1854), and for physical or learning situations contact Services for Students with Disabilities (342-1818). Please see to this as soon as possible and notify us so that we can make provisions in a timely manner.
